Like it’s sister, grass cloth, flax wallpaper is quite popular nowadays. For some unaccustomed to seeing seams and lots of pattern variation, flax wallpaper can be an acquired taste. Since it is a natural, hand-woven fabric, no two rolls of wallpaper will look the same. The variation in fibers from roll to roll ensures you get a paneled effect similar to grass cloth.
This week we installed the flax paper above in a first floor powder room in Fairfax, Virginia. On one hand, the flax and viscose fibers of the wallpaper make it a hardy choice of paper. It is extremely tear-resistant. On the other hand, it’s shine and natural flare makes the room feel larger while retaining a sense of warmth. Flax makes for both robust and beautiful wallpaper.
